When the President in The White House changes a key phrase in his Affordable Care Act because it does not translate effectively into Spanish, you can see how important it is to take advice on translation prior to the production of a legal document or the branding of a policy.
It was reported at the end of January in the Washington Times that the Obama administration recently announced that as part of their Affordable Care Act, the phrase ‘mandatory health care exchanges’ was to be changed to ‘online marketplace’ instead. The reason for this? The word ‘exchanges’ was not as readily understood by the Spanish speaking population as the word ’marketplace’ and because of this the Affordable Care Act had to be rebranded.
